“High school students from New York and Vermont showcased their culinary passions in this year's competition, and due to the increased participation, winners were awarded from each state!"

Utica, NY (April 2024) - The New York Beef Council (NYBC) is thrilled to announce its continued partnership with the New York State Restaurant Association (NYSRA) and New York/Vermont ProStart for the 4th Annual Gourmet Burger Battle individual competition, set to take place at the 2024 NYSRA ProStart Invitational. ProStart is a two-year, industry-backed culinary arts and restaurant management program for high school students. The NYSRA manages ProStart programs for both New York and Vermont. Again, this year's event was hosted at the esteemed Culinary Institute of America (CIA) in Hyde Park, NY.

Scheduled each year in March, this year's competition challenged students from New York and Vermont ProStart to create innovative burgers highlighting beef as the main ingredient. Participants were required to submit their burger recipes and a photo of the finished product. The competition culminates in a live cook-off during the event, where they presented their creations to a panel of judges.

High school students from New York and Vermont showcased their culinary passion in this year's competition, and winners were awarded from each state due to the increased participation! With twenty-six participants, triple last year's participants, the top three winners from both the NY and Vermont ProStart programs stood out for their creativity and culinary skills:

New York:

1st Place: Naddiyah Morgan from ONC BOCES Northern Catskills Occupational Center, Grand Gorge, NY

Vermont:

1st Place: Daniel Wellspeak from Southwest Tech, Bennington, VT

The 4th Annual Gourmet Burger Battle was another exciting event, further solidifying its status as a highlight of the NYSRA ProStart Invitational. The New York Beef Council is proud to support the next generation of chefs and looks forward to witnessing their culinary prowess unfold.
